Ford Ranger Will Return to the US in 2018 - 08/26/2015

Ford Ranger Will Return to the US in 2018

PEKIN, Ill. – There’s been a lot of complaining that Ford Motor Co. has the 2016 Ford Ranger in over 180 global markets, excluding the U.S., but Ford finally may have bent its ear to hear the complaints of midsize pickup drivers because the Ford Ranger will return to the U.S. in 2018, according to inside sources aware of Ford’s plans.

Ford is working with the United Auto Workers to build the Ranger at the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Mich. but before anything is set in stone the union and then Ford’s board of directors must agree to the contract’s contents.

The last Ranger manufactured in the U.S. rolled off the assembly line in 2011 at the Twin Cities Assembly Plant – now out of commission – in Minnesota. But that didn’t end production of the Ranger, which is now built in South Africa, Argentina, Thailand, and Nigeria.

If you’ve ever wondered why Ford doesn’t just import the Ranger, it’s because of a 25% tariff called the “chicken tax,” which, for Ford to recover the costs of importation, would hike up prices for American buyers. As you can imagine, a midsize truck wouldn’t sell well with a 25% price increase.

Right now Ford and the UAW are discussing whether or not the Ranger would fit in at the Michigan Assembly Plant, which employs 4,500 workers who build the C-Max and Focus. If the contract to build the Ranger in Michigan goes through, production of the C-Max and Focus would be moved to Mexico.

If the Ford Ranger returns to the U.S. in 2018, it would help the automaker clinch a berth in the competition for midsize truck sales. Ford’s competitors have already cleared a space for their products, including the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, Toyota Tacoma, and Nissan Frontier. Inserting its Ranger back into the midsize truck segment would also help Ford meet the federal governments rising standards for fuel economy across fleets.

If you were as bummed as us when Ford ended production of the Ranger back in 2011, then news like this should have you out of your seat. We can’t wait to see the Ranger return in 2018, and we’ll always love the old models. Check out our inventory of used cars and trucks at our Morton area used car dealer to see if we have any in stock.

2017 Ford F-150 Raptor Blends Best of Both Worlds - 08/25/2015

2017 Ford F-150 Raptor Blends Best of Both Worlds

PEKIN, Ill. – Sometimes, to reach a new highpoint it’s necessary to venture from one path and take a chance in another direction, and when an automaker like Ford Motor Co. already produces two of the best pickup trucks available, the solution to manufacture a cutting-edge model is simple: Combine.

The 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor blends the best of both worlds by combining the most noteworthy building blocks from the 2015 Ford F-150 and Raptor. The result isn’t Frankensteinian at all, but instead makes for a bold, capable pickup that can rip through the toughest trails.

But Ford didn’t just stitch together a slew of components and declare, “Voila!” The 2017 F-150 Raptor spent some serious testing time on the most unforgiving trails in Northern Michigan, where it cut its teeth prevailing over obstructive hills, trench like ruts, and myriad rail nuisances that tend to bring other pickups to a halt.

2017 Ford F-150 Raptor Blends Best of Both Worlds

When we declare the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor blends the best of both worlds, we’re referring to a few functional improvements including extended ground clearance that trumps the first generation Raptor, and also new 3.0-inch FOX Racing Shox with custom internal bypass technology. The increased ground clearance leaves more room between the rigid landscape and the pickup’s chassis, while the new shock absorption technology decreases yet strengthens suspension travel over choppy terrain.

Of course, where would the 2017 F-150 Raptor be in regards to capability were it not equipped with an all-new four-wheel drive, torque-on-demand transfer case? The transfer case spreads power to the front and rear wheels, and fuses notable aspects of clutch-driven, on-demand all-wheel drive with mechanical-locking four-wheel drive.

If you’re a fanatic of new Ford trucks, get ready to test-drive this monstrous machine in fall 2016, and check out the extensive inventory of Certified Pre-Owned vehicles at our Washington, IL, area used car dealer.

Cadillac Capsule Collection Makes Luxury Automotive Fashion Statement - 08/21/2015

Cadillac Capsule Collection Makes Luxury Automotive Fashion Statement
© General Motors

PEKIN, Ill. – The auto industry is transitioning into an era where brands' cultural relevance matters to consumers. With that in mind, every unfamiliar avenue Cadillac speeds down needs to be a rational extension of their luxury image, and creating a line of fashionable menswear was one of the conquerable roads they discovered.

The Cadillac Capsule Collection makes a luxury automotive fashion statement exemplified by 15 fall and winter looks designed for men by rising designers, and styled by famed street style icon Nick Wooster. The collection is the perfect conduit for Cadillac to showcase its luxury design principles in the world of designer men's clothing.

In order for the Cadillac Capsule Collection to make a luxury automotive fashion statement, Cadillac teamed up with some of the fashion industry’s most creative designers from prominent brands such as Cadet, Carlos Campos, David Hart, Ernest Alexander, Gents, J. Lindeberg, Mark McNairy New Amsterdam, PLAC, and Timo Weiland.

Many of the designers have churned out high fashion pieces for the annual New York Men’s Day (NYMD) that showcases pieces from elite designers to celebrate the impact of menswear in American fashion. Cadillac has served as a key sponsor of NYMD since its commencement as a high-end fashion show.

There’s an unfamiliar intrigue that draws excitement over the Cadillac Capsule Collection when you realize the designs fall perfectly in line with Cadillac's luxury vehicle lineup. You can find the Cadillac Capsule Collection exclusively at Gilt.com/CadillacCapsule beginning September 9, 2015. Clothing prices range from $59-2,000, and David Hart, Cadet and Ernest Alexander will have pieces only unobtainable at other retailers.

Considering how awestruck we are by the Cadillac cars for sale at our Bartonville area Cadillac dealer, we anticipate the Cadillac Capsule Collection will imitate the same modern luxury found in the automaker's vehicles.

At Velde Automotive Group, we are committed to providing our customers with an unbeatable level of service and a great car buying experience. Ford Vehicles Brave the Coldest Climates Without Issue - 08/19/2015

Ford Vehicles Brave the Coldest Climates Without Issue

PEKIN, Ill. – Have you ever run into trouble trying to start your vehicle in the dead of winter? Ford Motor Co. wants to make sure your vehicle functions year-round, regardless of how much snow falls or how cold it gets outside.

All 75 global prototypes of Ford vehicles brave the coldest climates without issue when the automaker brings them to McKinley Climatic Laboratory at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida to go through bitter temperature testing. The laboratory simulates a range of cold weather climates from 40 to minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit, and Ford vehicles have evinced their durability by pushing through each test.

Many Ford drivers live in isolated, northern lands burdened by winter’s heaviest snows and coldest bite, such as in Alaska and Yellowknife, Northwest Territories in Canada. These drivers not only need reliable modes of transportation, but also vehicles that can act as safe havens if the weather gets brutal enough, and it certainly does.

Thanks to a group of engineers who enacted daily modifications to vehicles while they tested at McKinley, Ford vehicles can brave the coldest climates without issue. In impressive display of motivation through trial and error, engineers reworked the F-Series Super Duty’s 6.7L engine until they discovered ceramic gold plugs produce heat faster than metallic plugs. This enables the engine to easily start and continue running in cold temperatures.

While we don’t experience Alaskan or Canadian winters in central Illinois, we definitely feel the temperature plunge at times during the winter. Harsh winter weather can prevent your vehicle from starting, but we’re certain that new Ford vehicles can overcome any temperatures we experience at our Washington, Ill., area used car dealer.

At Velde Automotive Group, we are committed to providing our customers with an unbeatable level of service and a great car buying experience. Feel free to visit either of our dealerships, Velde Ford at 2200 North 8th Street, Pekin, IL 61554 or Velde Cadillac Buick GMC is located at 2220 North 8th Street, Pekin, IL 61554.

Ford F-650 and F-750 Production Moves to Ohio from Mexico - 08/14/2015

Ford F-650 and F-750 Production Moves to Ohio from Mexico

PEKIN, Illi. – There’s nothing like quality American manufacturing. Ford Motor Co. understands that, which is probably why Ford F-650 and F-750 production moved to Ohio from Mexico. More importantly the move to Ohio established 1,000 new jobs at Ohio Assembly Plant located in Avon Lake, Ohio.

The F-650 and F-750 stand obstinate as the top-selling medium-duty trucks in America for 30 years, and on August 12, 2015, they rolled off an American assembly line for the first time. Along with 1,000 hourly UAW jobs, Ohio Assembly Plant also received a $168 million investment that will provide new body shop equipment and other tooling needed to manufacture the trucks.

Despite their monstrous size, Ford offers the F-650 and F-750 in an array of body styles, including a Regular Cab, SuperCab, and Crew Cab, as well as straight-frame, dock-height, and a tractor model intended for heavy towing. Additionally, the medium-duty trucks storm the road with a Ford-designed-and-built diesel engine and transmission combination – a feat no other truck manufacturer has taken on.

The F-650 and F-750 are the only medium-duty trucks made available with a gasoline-powered engine. Also available is a 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel engine option, as well as a 6.8-liter V10 option that boasts 320 horsepower and an impressive 460 pounds per feet of torque.

It’s great news for America that Ford F-650 and F-750 production moved to Ohio from Mexico – It could be a sign of the times that Ford feels the urge to bring some major manufacturing back to its homeland. Bringing manufacturing back home to create 1,000 jobs shows how much Ford cares about the American people. We like to reflect that caring attitude, which is why we get you the best deal we can on the certified pre-owned cars and trucks at our Bartonville area used car dealer!

At Velde Automotive Group, we are committed to providing our customers with an unbeatable level of service and a great car buying experience. 2016 Ford Ranger to be Built in Nigeria but not in USe - 08/12/2015

2016 Ford Ranger to be Built in Nigeria but not in US

PEKIN, Illi. – If you’ve been waiting for the day that Ford Motor Co. would bring back the Ranger midsize pickup truck, you might as well keep waiting.

The 2016 Ford Ranger will be built in Nigeria but not in the U.S., which isn’t all that shocking considering 148 other global markets in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa already have their hands on this seemingly mythical machine. To give you an idea of just how elusive it has become, the last time a Ranger rolled of a U.S. assembly line was in St. Paul, Minn., on December 2011.

Ford’s decision to build the 2016 Ranger in Nigeria but not in the U.S. has everything to do with its expansion plan to exhibit a larger presence in the Middle East and Africa. According to Ford, Nigeria will be the first African country, with exception to South Africa, to produce Ford vehicles.

The 2016 Ranger will be assembled with body parts and components imported from South Africa. The new assembly plant is in Ikeja, a suburb of Lagos, and is expected to create 180 jobs that will help produce up to 5,000 vehicles annually that will be sold exclusively in Nigeria.

The 2016 Ranger was the best-selling vehicle in South Africa for the first half of 2015, and is capable of towing close to 8,000 pounds. It’s the perfect midsize pickup for making your way over rough terrains or simply driving through an urban area with more ease than a full-size pickup provides.

No wonder Americans want this truck back in the U.S. We’re just as jealous as you are of the countries whose people are bestowed with the magnificence of the 2016 Ford Range, but for now you can get behind the wheel of a 2015 Ford F-150 and soon a 2016 F-150 – We guarantee you’ll enjoy either model. We also have a great inventory of used cars and trucks at our Morton area used car dealer. As far as we know, there aren't any Ranger lurking in there, but you might want to check for yourself!

New Ford Spider Screen Keeps 8-Legged Freaks out of Your Car - 08/07/2015

New Ford Spider Screen keeps 8-legged Freaks out of Your Car

PEKIN, Illi. –– Contrary to the song lyrics you sang as a young, smiley child, the itsy-bitsy spider isn't just climbing up the water spout. The little 8-legged things you fear more than your great aunt's meatloaf have found a point of infiltration into your vehicle's fuel vapor lines, and it's worse than you think.

You’re probably familiar with the creepy crawlers that are weaving webs in fuel vapor lines. They’re called yellow sac spiders and they frequent the nooks and crannies of homes across North America.

What makes the yellow sac spider so hazardous has nothing to do with its bite –– although it does hold some sort of unofficial record for most human bites –– but has everything to do with the way it builds its web. In fact, this yellow bugger doesn’t weave a web at all but instead constructs dense cocoon-like structures.

The uncanny spider cocoons are thick enough to block fuel vapor lines, which can lead to engine damage and waning vehicle performance. This got Ford’s spidey senses tingling, which prompted them to develop a spider screen that keeps 8-legged freaks from reaching one of your vehicle’s most vital components.

The screen is placed inside your vehicle’s fuel vapor line to prevent spiders from entering. This keeps the line clear to allow air and vapor circulation for a vehicle’s carbon canister to flow freely without any creepy obstructions.

The new Ford spider screen that keeps 8-legged freaks out of your car will debut with the 2016 Ford Focus RS before eventual implementation into the entire Ford vehicle lineup. Until then, keep a can of Raid in your cup holder. And remember, spiders aren’t the only potential cause of damage to your vehicle. It’s important to get your oil changed on a regular basis, as well as any other necessary car repair, to maintain your vehicle’s quality. We can’t exterminate spiders for you, but we can handle your more traditional auto service needs at our Washington, Ill., area used car dealer!

5 Ways to Help Your Young Child Prepare to Go Back to School - 08/05/2015

5 Ways to Help Your Young Child Prepare to Go Back to School

PEKIN, Illi.– Summer still has plenty of sun and warmth for us to enjoy, but there’s no denying the season is coming to a close, along with the seemingly brief vacation from school that comes with it. The month of August can be a stressful time for you and your child as they prepare to head back to school.

However, there are ways you can help your child make a smooth transition from eating popsicles under the sun to learning times tables in a classroom. We thought these 5 ways to help your young child prepare to go back to school might make that transition a bit less rocky for you and your young child. Take a look:

  1. Have a talk with your child about how ready they feel. It seems the most rational place to start when it comes to preparing your child to go back to school is to simply have a talk with them about how ready they are to adjust to a school routine. What subjects are they excited to learn? Are they nervous about anything? Do they know what friends will be in their classroom? Do they know who their teacher is? Ask questions that will make them consider what a school day entails so they can begin to adjust their mindset ahead of time.

  2. Attend classroom or school orientations with your child. Not every school hosts orientations, but if they do at your child’s school it would be wise to attend one with them. This will reintroduce your child to the school’s atmosphere, and help them become familiar with the premises so they aren’t totally out of their element on the first day. This is especially helpful if your child is attending a new school for the first time.

  3. Make buying school supplies fun for your child. Leading up to the first day of school, one of the events that might strike fear or anxiety into your child is dragging them to the store to purchase necessary school supplies for the semester. Some children may feel apprehensive about a trip like this because those items are associated with –– gulp –– learning, homework, and being away from home for 7–8 hours a day. However, you can make buying school supplies fun for your child. Give them some freedom to pick out the items they like, just make sure they stick to any guidelines that exist from the school.

  4. Put your child back on a school schedule before school starts. This one could be the hardest to implement in the last weeks of summer, but it will definitely help you and your child adjust to the school year and make the transition easier. Start putting your child to bed earlier and waking them up earlier. Tell them they need to come in from playing outside a little earlier in the evening. Doing these things will help your child prepare for a school schedule that permits less playtime or staying up late. It will prepare them for a schedule that revolves more around homework, extracurricular activities, and getting more sleep for long days.

  5. Instill independence in your child. Anxiety due to being away from their parents is one of the tough issues kids face when they go back to school. To prevent anxiety in your child, it might be a good idea to instill some independence in them so they become used to being away from you. Let them pick out certain school supplies, as mentioned, or let them choose what they want for lunch on their first day of school.

We’ve all been there and know how tough it can be to start a new school year, especially if its your first time or if you're attending a new school. Hopefully these 5 ways to help your young child prepare to go back to school give you some ideas for what you can do to mitigate the anxiety and calm the nerves that your child may experience as summer vacation closes and school draws near.

After you drop your child off at school this fall, remember to stop in at our Morton area used car dealer to get a quick oil change or have some auto service taken care of!

2015 Ford F-150 First Pickup to Earn 5-Star Rating for SuperCrew Model - 07/30/2015

2015 Ford F-150 First Pickup to Earn 5-Star Rating for SuperCrew Model

PEKIN, Illi.– Here’s some news that might throw a few of you off: the 2015 Ford F-150 is the first pickup to earn a 5-star safety rating for its SuperCrew model from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The 2015 Ford F-150 is expected to be the top vehicle driven by military members as it was in 2014, and has already earned a number of awards. Now the F-150 has gone a step further by giving a superb crash test performance due to a 700-pound weight loss through its high-strength steel frame, aluminum alloy body, and flat out ingenious engineering.

The weight loss wasn’t easy, but a team of Ford truck product development veterans and researchers were able to pull it off and create a durable, capable, fuel efficient, safe pickup. According to Ford, the team developed 31 safety-related advancements like new structures, materials and joining methods that were virtually tested with supercomputer simulations before the F-150 was retested in advanced laboratories and engineered as the safest F-150 yet.

Despite the fact that the 2015 Ford F-150 is the first pickup to earn a 5-star safety rating for its SuperCrew model, there are still plenty of doubters out there who claim the repair costs of the new F-150 are too high. In the words of Taylor Swift, "Haters gonna hate," but you can bet Ford totally disagrees with these claims that are based on data from unrealistic stunts and has no problem disproving them on the truth about truck safety and repairability

Ford prefers to look at real-world accident repair data because, well, you’re a real person and could find yourself in a real accident, not some contrived stunt. And the real-world repair costs aren’t actually that high. In fact, Ford says real-world repair costs for the 2015 F-150 end up being about $869 less than last year’s F-150 model, according to the body shop certification company Assured Performance. Allstate and State Farm have also backed up Ford’s claims that the 2015 F-150’s repair costs are affordable, stating that insurance costs are comparable with 2014 models.

Regardless of what doubters say, Ford has the facts and this top safety award, not to mention support from other companies, proves that the 2015 Ford F-150 is a capable, durable, safe pickup. Got a ding in your 2015 F-150? Feel free to bring it into our collision shop! If you still need to be convinced that this is the highest-quality pickup in the market, feel free to come test-drive any of the New Ford Trucks at our Washington, IL, area Ford dealership!

Ford Driving Dreams Tour Extended to Panama - 07/28/2015

Ford Driving Dreams Tour Extended to Panama

PEKIN, Illi.– Ford has held a community-driven presence in America and other nations for over a century, but for the first time Ford and Ford Motor Company Fund have extended the Ford Driving Dreams Tour beyond the borders of the United States.

Ford Fund created the Ford Driving Dreams Tour in 2012 to help Latino youth in graduate on time and pursue higher education. Since then the program has aided over 30,000 students in Chicago, Indiana, Florida and Texas, and granted over $1,500,000 in scholarships, college preparation, tutoring, parental involvement and motivational activities.

Recently, the Ford Driving Dreams Tour extended to Panama, its debut international destination, where Ford and Ford Fund assisted over 300 teen students in learning new skills. In partnership with United Way Panama and the Ministry of Education Panama, Ford Driving Dreams provided the teens with over $50,000 in grants, scholarships and motivational activities intended to encourage them to stay in school.

Ford Driving Dreams narrowed its philanthropic scope to cover Panamanian students between 13 and 15 years old because this age group is the most likely to drop out of school as a result of poor social and economic conditions that prevent adequate provisions of school supplies, meals and transportation.

The over 300 students selected to receive aid from Ford Driving Dreams came from 19 public schools located in some of the most unstable and impoverished communities in and around Panama City, Panama. The students are in good academic standing despite their impoverished environments, and Ford wanted to help unleash their potential to prevent them from succumbing to stifling social and economic pressures.

According to Ford, the Ford Driving Dreams program gave the students a full day of motivational and goal-setting activities led by professional subject-matter experts, as well as testimonies from motivational speakers like former Boxing World Champion Chemito Moreno and athlete César Barría– the first disabled Latin- and Central-American to swim across the Strait of Gibraltar.

Ford Driving Dreams also promoted the “What Drives Your Dreams?” essay contest that emphasizes the value of education and chasing your dreams while also contributing to the community.  It will provide $10,500 in scholarships, administered by United Way Panama, to help students and their families finance the costs of school supplies, books, transportation and meals that lead to students dropping out.

It’s very heartwarming to see the Ford Driving Dreams Tour extended to Panama as an addition to its Operation Better World, Ford’s global philanthropic effort, and its pre-existing environmental efforts in Panama. Overall, Ford has now invested around $900,000 in Central America since it first awarded environmental grants in 2001.

While we love the quality design, technology and performance you can find in New Ford Cars or New Ford Trucks, it’s Ford’s passion for maintaining a global community presence that really drives our Bartonville area Ford dealer where we also have a passion for community involvement!

Ford Will Make Headlights that Track Objects at Night - 07/22/2015

Ford Will Make Headlights that Track Objects at Night

PEKIN, Illi.– Nighttime drives can be relaxing for passengers, but if you’re the one manning the vehicle you know how stressful it can be when your headlights make only a short span of road in front of you visible. Wouldn’t it be nice if there were technology to help you notice potential hazards so you can safely navigate the night?

You’re in luck, because with new technology called Camera-Based Advanced Front Lighting System and Spot Lighting, Ford will make headlights that track obstacles at night. The new technology will help you become a safer and more relaxed driver when the sun goes down, and builds on Fords Adaptive Front Lighting System and Traffic Sign Recognition that are already implemented into its vehicles.

The Camera-Based Advanced Front Lighting System is able to widen the light beam at intersections and roundabouts to highlight objects outside of your vehicle’s path that you normally wouldn’t notice at night.

GPS information enables the system to understand when bends or other alterations in a route occur so your headlights can adjust to illuminate them. However, you know how unreliable GPS can be at times, which is why Ford installed a forward-facing video camera in the rear-view mirror base that understands lane markings and can foretell a road’s shape and remembers that information for next time.

Spot Lighting technology brings your attention to objects that are in your vehicle’s path or just outside it using an infrared camera in the vehicle’s grille that can detect and trace eight people or large animals up to 360 feet away.

The system can spotlight two hazards by displaying a spot and a stripe on the road illuminated by two special LED lamps alongside the fog lights. The spotlighted objects are signified with a red or yellow frame on the screen inside the vehicle, depending on how close they are to you.

With the amount of accidents that occur at night due to a driver’s inability to notice objects, it’s great to know that Ford will make headlights that track obstacles at night in order to improve your level of safety when you drive at night. For now this technology is still being developed and tested in Europe, but Ford plans to implement it into its vehicles in the near future.

Even without this headlight technology, the New Ford Cars and New Ford Trucks at our Dealership are incredible safe. Suffice it to say, if you’re looking for a safe vehicle, you want to look in Ford’s direction. For now this technology is still being developed and tested in Europe, but Ford plans to implement it into its vehicles once the systems are road-ready. Even without this headlight technology, the Ford Cars and New Ford Trucks at our Bartonville area Ford dealer are incredible safe.

All-New 2016 GMC Sierra Revealed - 07/16/2015

© General Motors

PEKIN, Mich.– If you’re extremely particular about the type of pickup you drive, the moment you’ve been waiting for has finally arrived now that the all-new 2016 GMC Sierra was revealed.

The Sierra is GMC’s best-selling truck and GMC pulled back the curtain on the 2016 model just as the current model came out of its best June sales since 2006, along with 12 straight months of nonstop sales improvements.

Although the Sierra is a top performer in its segment, the majority of consumers are first drawn to its impressive design. That’s why the all-new GMC Sierra was revealed as having a number of new design elements like:

  • “C-shaped” LED signature daytime running lights and LED headlights
  • “C-shaped” LED taillights
  • New front fascia and grilles for each trim level
  • New LED fog lamps
  • New bumpers

So far details on the 2016 Sierra are scarce, but GMC will disclose more information between now and when the best-selling pickup will be available near the end of 2015. Looking through some of the photos GMC released, we can at least gather you’ll be able to use Apple CarPlay– Apple’s operating system used to integrate iPhones with vehicles– through the new Sierra’s IntelliLink infotainment system, which is a definite plus.

As somewhat of a little brother to GM’s bigger brands like Chevrolet, it’s not often we hear big news like this from GMC. We can’t wait to add the 2016 GMC Sierra to our inventory of New GMC Trucks at our Bartonville area GMC dealership!

Ford Makes Carbon Fiber Wheels with Space Shuttle Technology - 07/15/2015

Ford Makes Carbon Fiber Wheels with Space Shuttle Technology

PEKIN, Illi.– We’ve sent men to the moon, calculated Earth’s orbit, and even taken pictures of Pluto, but who ever thought all of that science could be applied to a car?

Now that Ford makes carbon fiber wheels with Space Shuttle technology for its Shelby® GT350R Mustang, you’ll soon learn how useful this knowledge can be on the road. Many auto parts companies already produce aftermarket carbon fiber wheels, but Ford will be the first automaker to mass-produce a wheel of this caliber.

Ford took special care to design a carbon fiber wheel able to endure harsh elements and even the occasional curb or pothole. The wheel is made a pre-made structure of carbon fiber strands woven together, and after an RFID chip tracked by Ford’s quality assurance system is inserted into the wheel, it’s infused with resin and cured at high heat.

The Space Shuttle technology plays in when Ford coats the wheels with a ceramic plasma arc spray originally intended for the Space Shuttle. The coating gives Ford’s carbon fiber wheels a layer of thermal protection that keeps brake heat from doing any damage.

Ford makes carbon fiber wheels with Space Shuttle technology, but its own development and testing has a large part in the functionality of the wheels. It isn’t news that Ford puts all of its wheels through vigorous tests that cover curb strikes, UV and chemical exposure, and high temperatures, and the GT350R’s carbon fiber wheels get the same brutal treatment before they’re approved.

The difference between Ford’s carbon fiber wheels and typical aluminum wheels is the level of durability and support. Its carbon fiber wheels are stiffer, lighter and more resilient, and give the GT350R better suspension response times, chassis performance, weight reduction and overall handling.

As much as we wish Ford’s carbon fiber wheels could be used on any vehicle, they’re intended for a high-performance track-ready vehicle like the Shelby GT350R Mustang, the most intense pony car manufactured today that is obviously in need of some above-average wheels that can take the heat.

Perhaps one day you’ll see Ford mass-producing carbon fiber wheels with Space Shuttle technology for more typical everyday vehicles, but for now– unless you intend to purchase a Shelby GT350R Mustang– you might have to settle with one of the New Ford Trucks or New Ford Cars for sale at our Ford Dealer serving Washington, IL. And don’t worry, these vehicles might not have the bite that a GT350R has, but they’re definitely just as dependable, even without carbon fiber wheels.

2015 Ford F-150 and F-Series Super Duty Win AutoPacific Vehicle Satisfaction Awards - 07/10/2015

2015 Ford F-150 and F-Series Super Duty Win AutoPacific Vehicle Satisfaction Awards

PEKIN, Illi.– You may have heard that U.S. military members prefer Ford trucks over any other brand, but they aren’t the only consumers that feel satisfied with Ford’s pickups.

AutoPacific, an automotive research and consulting group, says Ford trucks provide the most contentment to consumers who purchase pickups. That the 2015 Ford F-150 and F-Series Super Duty won AutoPacific Vehicle Satisfaction Awards is evidence of Ford’s popularity among those consumers.

“The Vehicle Satisfaction Awards look at the big picture, including owners’ experiences with overall quality and safety, but it goes deeper than that,” said George Peterson, president of AutoPacific. “We also take into account the heart of the ownership experience to determine those vehicles that are extremely satisfying to their owners.”

To determine the F-150 and F-Series Super Duty as winners, AutoPacific determined pickup-owners’ satisfaction with 50 different vehicle aspects, including fuel economy, performance, interior comfort and styling.

A wide range of vehicle attributes helped the F-150 earn AutoPacific’s Vehicle Satisfaction Award for light-duty pickups, reeling in the second-highest owner score to date as well as the highest truck rating ever. But Ford’s famous pickup also has the backing of recognition for best-in-class towing, payload and EPA-estimated gasoline fuel economy, and the government’s five-star crash test rating for all of its cab options.

The F-Series Super Duty acquired AutoPacific’s Vehicle Satisfaction Award for heavy-duty pickups, but, like the F-150, has its own history of previous accolades. Ford’s best-in-class with diesel horsepower and standard torque heavy-duty pickup also recently won the 2015 Best Retained Value Heavy Duty Truck from Edmunds.com for the F-350.

You don’t necessarily need to see the 2015 Ford F-150 and F-Series Super Duty win AutoPacific Vehicle Satisfaction Awards to believe they’re the best pickups around, but those awards certainly make a statement! We still think you should come test drive one of the New Ford Trucks or New Ford Cars at our Bartonville Area Ford Dealer to get a full understanding of why Ford vehicles earn the awards they do, so come on in!

At Velde Automotive Group, we are committed to providing our customers with an unbeatable level of service and a great car buying experience. Ford Makes Teens Safer Drivers with Driving Skills for Life - 07/08/2015

Ford Makes Teens Safer Drivers with Driving Skills for Life

PEKIN, Illi.– American auto companies produce the majority of the vehicles we drive in the U.S., and, therefore, have an obligation to produce safe vehicles like the 5-Star Safety Rating 2015 Ford Edge.

However, Ford makes teens safer drivers with Driving Skills for Life summer camp not as an obligation, but because they want to see younger drivers avoid accidents, injuries and potential fatality.

Ford’s DSFL summer camp gives teens a deeper education they typically don’t get in your average driver’s education course by showing teens how you can handle your vehicle on slick terrain or how you can avoid a messy accident with an object or animal in the road. Ford also shows teens how hazardous driving under the influence can be by giving them the opportunity experience simulated impairment with goggles and a special suit.

By partnering with the Governors Highway Safety Association, Ford’s DSFL will host 1,500 teens and their parents at the free summer camp, which is touring across six states starting in Fargo, N.D., on July 7, and moving through Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Wyoming into the month of August. Each stop will include four half-day sessions that cover vehicle handling, hazard recognition, speed management and space management.

Considering teen drivers are three times more likely than experienced drivers to be involved in a fatal motor vehicle accident, according to the CDC, Ford makes teens safer drivers with Driving Skills for Life by teaching them safer driving habits. The six states DSFL is touring through are ranked highest for high school teens ages 16 years or older who drink and drive, which places them at higher risk of being lumped into the CDC’s startling statistics on teen driving behavior that leads to death.

This time of the year also happens to be when teen driving accidents peak, so it makes sense why Ford would schedule DSFL to take place over the next month or so. Ford also wants teens’ parents to come out, too, because even experienced drivers need some recapping, and it never hurts to get an objective perspective on how you’re driving.

Although DSFL won’t be coming through our neck of the woods, we’re glad Ford is taking time to teach young drivers how to master the road and be safe. When it comes to safety, we trust Ford vehicles. That’s why we sell New Ford Cars and New Ford Trucks at our Washington, IL, Ford Dealer!

2015 Mustang Could Become Top-Seller Against Competition - 07/01/2015

2015 Mustang could become Top-Seller Against Competition

PEKIN, Illi.– It has been six years since the Ford Mustang last surpassed the Chevrolet Camaro in sales, but that could easily change with the 2015 model year.

The 2015 Mustang could become the top-seller against competition like the Camaro and the Dodge Challenger now that Mustang sales are up 55 percent from last year.

To put it into perspective, Ford sold 56,571 Mustangs into May 2015, compared to Camaro sales of 33,938 and Challenger sales of 30,166, according to Autodata Corp. You don’t have to think hard to figure out why the Mustang is outselling its competitors this year considering the 50th-anniversary redesigned pony car comes with a new 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine that pumps out 310 horsepower and still gets 32 miles per gallon on the highway.

Style and performance are obvious factors in why the 2015 Mustang could become the top-seller against competition, but who’s buying these muscle cars? Surprisingly, millennials account for 35 percent of Mustang sales now, and many of them hail from Southern California where Mustang sales shot up 117 percent.

Based on the history of Mustang sales this year, Ford believes sales data for June will show another 40 percent increase in sales, placing Ford’s prized vehicle the closest it has been in six years to achieving a best-seller status for its segment.

Some skeptics with a wait-and-see attitude are quick to point out that the 2016 Camaro and its convertible version, due in spring 2016, could pose some difficulties for Mustang sales. But if you ask us, we’re confident that the Mustang will achieve a best-seller status and keep it!

If you see the New Ford Cars and New Ford Trucks at our Bartonville Area Ford Dealership, you’ll understand the quality manufacturing that goes into a Mustang, and that’s what it takes for a performance vehicle to be the best!

Ford Split-View Camera Technology Will Make You a Safer Driver - 06/26/2015

Ford Split-View Camera Technology Will Make You a Safer Driver

PEKIN, Illi.– We’ve all done it: You pull up to a stop sign, check both ways, but a bush on the corner obstructs your view– you proceed regardless. Thankfully, as you nose out into the intersection, you check again  and realize an oncoming car was this close to smashing into the side of your vehicle.

Anxiety and sighs of relief ensue after frightening incidents like this, along with the question, “Why haven’t any automakers developed solutions for drivers to see around hazardous objects?” At ease: Ford split-view camera technology will make you a safer driver from here on out.

Ford debuted the camera on the 2015 Edge and 2016 Explorer in the U.S. and China because it understands the importance of driver awareness. That’s why Ford wants all of its North American light passenger vehicles to have standard rear-view cameras by 2018, and the majority of its vehicles globally to have front cameras by 2020.

Ford split-view camera technology will make you a safer driver because it uses real-time video feeds from 1-megapixel wide-angle lens camera located in your vehicle’s grille and tailgate. The cameras feed to a tri-panel display on your vehicle’s 8-inch screen that allows you to see around obstructions blocking your vision on either side or from straight on. Activate split-view, which turns off at 6.2 mph, to get a 180-degree view of the area in front of or behind your vehicle and notice any oncoming traffic or obstacles you would otherwise be unaware of.

Right now the 2016 F-150 has the most cameras– five– of any Ford vehicle, but the next Super Duty will contain the most advanced camera technology yet with seven camera, improving lane-keeping assistance and helping customers see better around their truck and trailer. Ford's camera technology is just one of the reasons we feel comfortable selling New Ford Cars and New Ford Trucks at our Ford Dealership Serving Morton, IL!

At Velde Automotive Group, we are committed to providing our customers with an unbeatable level of service and a great car buying experience. 2015 Ford Transit Connect and F-350 Super Duty Win Edmunds.com Awards - 06/23/2015

Ford Transit Connect and F-350 Super Duty Win Edmunds.com Awards

PEKIN, Illi.– Losing is never much of an option for Ford, which explains why the 2015 Ford Transit Connect and F-350 Super Duty win Edmunds.com awards like Best Retained Value.

The 2015 Transit Connect van and the F-350 Super Duty recently won 2015 Best Retained Value Small Commercial Van and 2015 Best Retained Value Heavy Duty Truck, respectively, when Edmunds.com determined the vehicles have the highest projected residual values after 5 years after taking into account their average True Market Value price when sold as new.

The awards are important because residual value holds the most influence in deciding a vehicle’s total cost of ownership, and they help spread the word on Ford’s commitment to quality manufacturing.

The 2015 Ford Transit Connect and F-350 Super Duty win Edmunds.com awards after Edmunds.com analyzed model year 2015 vehicles that came out at the end of 2014 and had unit sales in February 2015 that were at least 25 percent of the average unit sales for a specific market segment. According to Edmunds.com, the average retained value for the Transit Connect after five years is 47 percent, and for the F-350 Super Duty it’s 58.5 percent.

On top of the Edmunds.com award, the Transit Connect was also named ALG’s Best Resale Value for midsize commercial vans, and in April the Transit Connect XLT short-wheelbase midsize van won the Vincentric Best Fleet Value in America award in the Mini Passenger Commercial Van Category.

Ford Transit Connect and F-350 Super Duty Win Edmunds.com Awards

Awards like these demonstrate how Ford approaches manufacturing quality vehicles, but if these accolades don’t speak volumes to you feel free to drop in at our Ford Dealership serving Morton, IL, and take a look at the New Ford Cars and New Ford Trucks on our lot. Millennials Prefer American-Made Vehicles - 06/10/2015

Millennials Prefer American-Made Vehicles

PEKIN, Illi.– According to a recent survey from Ford, the majority of Millennials prefer American-made vehicles. In particular, members of Generation Y– ages 23 to 24– and Generation Z– ages 16 to 22– believe American-made vehicles connote quality, which they value over attractiveness. Not surprising, they also see Ford as one of the top three car brands to manufacture quality vehicles.

Millennials lean in the opposite direction of their parents when it comes to purchasing a vehicle. 72 percent say they don’t feel obligated to purchase the same brand vehicles as their parents, and 91 percent trust that American-made vehicles are equal to or better than their foreign competitors.

While the majority of Millennials may disagree with their parents on brand preference, that doesn’t mean they altogether reject their parents’ opinions. When assessing a vehicle, 40 percent of Millennials will still consider their parents’ input. However, the Internet’s influence definitely doesn’t lag far behind. 38 percent value online reviews and 27 percent look to third-party quality rankings.

Overall, Millennials want to see evidence for the quality of a vehicle, not just hear about it, before they make a purchase. More than anything, including their parents’ opinions, Millennials consider factors such as cost, gas mileage, driving quality and safety features before making a vehicle purchase.

This data shows a shift in thinking. For a long time, the look of a vehicle has taken precedence, but Millennials prefer American-made vehicles because they know companies like Ford consider quality to be paramount. It’s no surprise they rank Ford as one of the top three brands to purchase from! If you’re a Millennial, come see for yourself the quality built into the New Ford Cars and New Ford Trucks and our Morton Area Ford Dealership!

2016 Ford Escape and Fiesta Introduce SYNC 3 - 06/03/2015

2016 Ford Escape and Fiesta Introduce SYNC 3

PEKIN, Illi.– As the world’s most innovative auto manufacturer, there is no slowing down for Ford Motor Company. The automaker will prove itself once again when the 2016 Ford Escape and Fiesta introduce SYNC 3 to North America this summer.

SYNC 3, Ford’s newest version of its communications and entertainment system, will showcase a broad range of new features, including:

  • Faster performance
  • Conversational voice recognition
  • A perceptive touchscreen
  • A simpler graphical interface
  • AppLink to incorporate smartphone apps
  • Siri Eyes-Free capability for Apple iPhone
  • Software updates via Wi-Fi
  • Enhanced 911 Assist

The decision for the 2016 Ford Escape and Fiesta to introduce SYNC 3 is a strategic one. The Escape is one of Ford’s most popular vehicles, and the Fiesta is its most affordable. These vehicles will become technologically savvy and safer thanks to SYNC 3. With SYNC 3, drivers can safely connect their smartphones and use them with their vehicles without taking their focus away from the road.

Ford is already on top of the auto tech mountain, and SYNC 3 cements their position even more. It’s safe to say SYNC 3 isn’t the first time Ford has made driving more convenient than ever. All you have to do is look at the New Ford Cars and New Ford Trucks at our Morton Area Ford Dealership to know that!
